What is Permanent Jewelry?
Permanent jewelry is an experience unlike any other! Specifically designed to be worn continuously on the body for an extended duration, permanent jewelry is a timeless expression of your unique style. Typically crafted from high-quality materials such as 14k solid gold, gold-filled, or sterling silver, the wearer chooses their favorite chain and charm or connector and their new jewelry is then applied with a welder in a matter of minutes!
Permanent Jewelry is applied with a welder that allows fine metals to be welded together in a fraction of a second. The quick spark welds together the links of the chain or a jump ring which replaces the need for a clasp. The spark that is generated during this process is NOT of high temperature allowing for quick & safe application.
The chains applied during this process are thin enough to last but not thick enough to cause harm to the wearer if it were to become caught on an object. If they need to be removed for any reason, simply snip them with a pair of scissors or nail clippers. Should you wish to remove the jewelry for any reason, it can always be re-welded.
You will not feel a thing as we are working with the metal, not your skin! There is no risk to you, as the welder will only react to metal. With our machine, should the customer's skin come in contact with the weld point, the electrode will not generate a spark.
My Story
My name is Kimberly Smith and I started my career in jewelry as a sales associate at Kay Jewelers, earning my way through college. I continued my way up the ranks as the assistant manager, until the water bug hit me and I moved from Ohio to the Florida Keys in 2001.
In 2002 I started a new job where I met my future husband, Mike, also known as Smitty. We immediately fell deeply in love and began to build our lives together full of hopes and dreams of raising our many children to be little “Keys Kids” running through the mangroves and bronzed by the sun. He was a mariner deep in his soul, and had salt running through his veins. Mike had woven a never-ending line around his ankle in a mariner knot called a “Turks Head” and melted it together into one continuous, infinite line, known to all his buddies as his Smitty Band. When he promised himself to me forever, I had the honor of him tying a Smitty Band on my ankle too, his own version of a promise ring. A couple of years later we were married in 2004, with hurricane Francis bearing down on us, but our love managed to conquer the storm.
After trying to have a baby for two years, we finally got pregnant, and it was the happiest day of our lives! The tragedy that followed changed my life and all those who knew and loved him. Mike passed away when I was four months pregnant with our first child, our son, in October of 2007 from shallow-water blackout.
The old mariner’s legend about the ancient symbol for eternity, the Turks Head, is said to bring the wearer love, and keep them safe at sea. It says that if you cut it off you have bad luck, but if it wears off you will always have good fortune. My Smitty Band didn’t come off until it wore through nearly 18 years after he promised to always be my forever, surprisingly, on Mike’s birthday.
I have woven a life intertwined with my beautiful children, scuba diving, dolphin training, yoga, paddle boarding, the best of friends, lots of laughter, and tremendous loss. I have accomplished goals I never thought attainable. I have not only survived, but have learned how to thrive in this universe, and I taught myself how to smile again while in the depths of eternal grief.
In 2023, I was introduced to permanent jewelry and thought it was the perfect way to “replace” my Smitty band with a beautiful 14kt gold anklet to honor my late husband and our eternal love. I fell in love with the process and decided I wanted to provide this experience for others. With my background in jewelry, it felt like the perfect full-circle career!
Our “Smitty Bands”
How does it work?
Choose your chain from a variety of different styles and metals. I offer 14kt white, yellow, or rose gold, gold-filled, and sterling silver.
After you have made your selection and chosen the location you’d like (bracelet, anklet, necklace, ring), I measure for the appropriate slack, cut the chain, and weld it back together with a link or jump ring for one continuous piece of stunning jewelry!
Add Charms!
Charms give your jewelry a bit of sparkle and brilliance! I offer a variety of connector pieces and dangle charms. Isn’t it irritating when your necklace clasp drifts around from the back of your neck to the front and is mixed up with your charm? Clasp-free jewelry to the rescue!
The Experience!
Babe, it’s all about the experience! The process is fun and engaging, and when you get linked with someone special in your life, it is something to remember for many years to come, just like the life of your jewelry!
This is the perfect experience to share with your significant other, your bestie, mother/daughter, bridal party, your wedding day, a team-building event, or simply treat yourself like I did!
